A traditional yellow tram in front of the Rua Augusta Arch. The triumphal arch is the entrance point from Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square) to Rua Augusta - a pedestrianized street which leads to Rossio Square.
The Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square) is on the bank of the Tagus river. the square is commonly known as Terreiro do Paço ( Palace Yard), because it was the location of the Paços da Ribeira (Royal Ribeira Palace) until it was destroyed by the great 1755 Lisbon earthquake.
